Prior to the Regular Board meeting a Public Hearing will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the Chicago Board of Education Board Chambers, 125 S. Clark Street, 5th Floor regarding the proposal to utilize President Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday as a day for student attendance, parent-teacher conferences, or teacher in-services or teacher institutes.  CPS seeks this holiday waiver pursuant to Section 24-2 of the School Code.  Per the School Code, President Abraham Lincoln will be recognized through instructional activities conducted on that day or, if the day is not used for student attendance, on the school day preceding or following that day. This request is being made so that the Board may use President’s Day as a holiday instead of President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  Testimony from educators, parents and members of the public will be heard during the public hearing.

Speaker registration will occur between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the125 S. Clark Street building.  The Public Participation portion of the Public Hearing will conclude after the last person who has signed in to speak has spoken, or at 9:30 a.m. whichever occurs first.
