Public Comment Period for Three Amended CPS Policies Ends August 25, 2025

During its July 2025 meeting, the Chicago Board of Education (Board) authorized a Public Comment Period from July 25 to August 25, 2025, for the amended Chicago Public Schools policies listed below.  

Visit the Chicago Public Schools’ Policy and Rules website and select “Proposed Policies” to review these policies and submit your feedback. They will be up for review and approval by the Board during its September 25, 2025, meeting.

  • Paid Time Off Policy

This policy provides for the accrual, accumulation, and use of paid vacation days, sick days, personal business days, and Short-Term

Disability benefits by eligible employees in alignment with existing programs and practices, Board Rules, and state law.

  • Auditor Independence and Provision of Consulting Services by External Auditors Policy

The Board finds that it is in its best interests as well as the best interests of the students, residents and taxpayers of the City of Chicago that the auditors of the Board’s financial statements, programs and operations (the “External Auditors”) be fully independent  of any conflict of interest, whether perceived or actual. To that end, effective immediately, it is the policy of the Board that no External Auditor may be hired or retained by the Board except in accordance with the provisions of this Policy.

  • Imposition of Charges on Returned Payment Instruments Policy

The Board and individual Chicago Public Schools receive payment instruments under a variety of circumstances including, but not  limited to: health insurance payment under COBRA and Section 125; registration fees for professional development seminars; usage  fees; and student fees. 

The Board values community input and is committed to listening and reflecting on public comments regarding proposed policies or rule changes. Community members have 30 calendar days to review and provide feedback on proposed policy or rule changes. 

  • All comments will be reviewed prior to being posted publicly on the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) website.
  • Please allow three to five business days for submitted comments to be reviewed and posted.
  • CPS reserves the right to review and redact comments it deems offensive or inappropriate.
