Public Comment Period for Four CPS Proposed Policies Ends September 29, 2025

During its August 2025 meeting, the Chicago Board of Education (Board) authorized a Public Comment Period from August 29 to September 29, 2025, for the Chicago Public Schools proposed policies listed below. 

Visit the Chicago Public Schools’ Policy and Rules website and select “Proposed Policies” to review these policies and submit your feedback. They will be up for review and approval by the Board during its October 23, 2025, meeting.

  • Staff Acceptable Use Policy

Chicago Public Schools provides access to technology devices, internet, data, and network systems to employees and other authorized users for educational and business purposes. This Staff Acceptable Use Policy establishes the standards for acceptable electronic activity of employees and other authorized Users using and accessing the District or school technology, internet, data, and network systems regardless of the User’s physical location.

  • Student Acceptable Use Policy

Chicago Public Schools provides access to technology devices, internet, and network systems to students for educational purposes. This Student Acceptable Use Policy establishes the standards for acceptable electronic activity of students (including recent graduates) accessing or using the District or school technology, internet, and network systems regardless of physical location.

  • Internet Safety Policy

During the biennial review of the Internet Safety Policy with the cross-departmental Acceptable Use Policy Review Committee, the committee determined the policy was no longer necessary as a standalone because the content is a duplicate of the Student Acceptable Use Policy (Student AUP).

  • Intellectual Property Policy

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear and consistent guidelines regarding the ownership of intellectual property created through the work of the Board of Education (“Board” or “CPS”) employees and third parties, including vendors, contractors, subcontractors, and consultants. The Board regularly engages in projects involving the development of software, databases, studies, educational materials, and other works that constitute intellectual property.

The Board values community input and is committed to listening and reflecting on public comments regarding proposed policies or rule changes. Community members have 30 calendar days to review and provide feedback on proposed policy or rule changes. 

  • All comments will be reviewed prior to being posted publicly on the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) website.

  • Please allow three to five business days for submitted comments to be reviewed and posted.

  • CPS reserves the right to review and redact comments it deems offensive or inappropriate.
